July 21st Event

Event will be held at the Dorothy Irene Height/Benning Library on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 3:30 pm and will feature a short Poor People’s Campaign documentary screening and conversation alongside recordings of voices from Poor People’s Campaign participants in 1968 and 2018.  In addition to the screening and conversation with Ann Scherer, we will hear select recordings by artist-in-residence Anu Yadav that were captured as part of the library’s Soul Tent, which is (in turn) part of the DC Community Heritage Project, a collaboration between HumanitiesDC and the Historic Preservation Office.

As an added bonus, outside the meeting room on the lower level you can check out three other 1968 anniversary projects: an exhibit about Dorothy Height by Benning branch librarian Wanda Jones (in partnership with the Dorothy I. Height Education Foundation), the Soul Tent installation, and the Hunger Wall Poster Project portable mural designed by 411 Collective. Many individuals and organizations have collaborated to bring these projects to life. I encourage you to take advantage of the chance to catch all of them together in one place!
