National Action Network Hosts Martin Luther King Day Breakfast

Monday, January 16, 2012– This morning Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of the National Action Network’s (NAN) made key announcements at the annual King Day Breakfast in Washington, D.C.  First, Rev. Sharpton announced that he will lead a 5-day March commemorating the historic 1965 Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March in remembrance of Bloody Sunday beginning March 4th. This March supports Voting Rights, highlighting the continuing efforts against Voter Suppression.  The 5-day March begins at the Edmund Pettus Bridge ending with a rally at the Alabama State Capitol on Friday, March 9. The March includes efforts to defeat Voter Identification Laws and reverse anti-Immigration laws in the state of Alabama. 

Secondly, Rev. Sharpton announced that NAN will lead a rally on March 27th in Washington, DC, at the United States Supreme Court as arguments are heard on Obama Care.  Rev. Sharpton adds they will be mass marching on this day, in the name of Martin Luther King , to stop those engaging in interposing federal law with state law.  Rev. Sharpton also adds that the effort to make the Health Care Act unconstitutional is not only a challenge to Health Care; but, the federal government as well.
