Letter from Lailah Hall | Feb 6, 2022

“Greetings,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am Lailah Hall, a second-year agribusiness scholar attending Florida A&M University. I was a scholarship recipient of the Dorothy I. Heights Scholarship in 2020.

I wanted to check-in and update you on life right now. I am currently fishing my second semester as a sophomore here at Florida A&M. The start of the new year, I already had to start planning for the spring agenda for the Florida Farm Bureau. I currently serve as President of the organization, and have completely revitalized the club as a whole. We often participate in weekly volunteer opportunities with farm partners all across the North Florida Area. I am planning for us to visit different farms in the spring so students can get experience in different fields of the industry. We also received the opportunity to meet with state legislators and the President & Vice-President of the Florida Farm Bureau at the state capitol, back in November for their Taste of Florida event.

I was inducted into the National Council of Negro Black Women, Inc. this past fall. I have enjoyed my experience so far, being able to connect with a network of other bold powerful and awesome black women has been a highlight. We have participated in a bunch of community service and forum events, educating other people on campus about different life topics.

I recently became a Cengage Student Ambassador. Cengage is an online software that many universities use to post their classes’ homework/study tools, my job is to bring more awareness about it to the student body.

I am also a part of the Activity & Service Liaison Committee at my school. This is a branch of the Student Government Association, where our job is to oversee the school’s budget and help allocate funding for each organization on campus.

In November, I was selected to attend the 2021 Agriculture Future of America Leadership conference where I was a Track 2 delegate. I met with a number of students all across the country, and we attended a three-day conference that taught us about professional development, the different parts of ag, and panel discussions.

I was a scholarship recipient for the BASF Company, who also sponsored my attendance there.  Thank you kindly again for awarding me with the scholarship, I am truly appreciative of it!!!!! I look forward to hearing from you.

Please stay safe in this weather!

Kind Regards,
Lailah Hall
