Student Upate: Kennedy Johnson

We love hearing from our Scholars and would like to share a brief update from Kennedy Johnson, a 2023 recipient of the Dorothy Irene Height Education Foundation scholarship. But first, we’d like to congratulate her on successfully completing her first year at Spelman College–we are very proud of her many accomplishments, not just academic achievements, but her personal growth as well.

“To round out the school year, I joined Spelman’s brand new intramural volleyball program, where I became an all-star and had my end-of-the-year dinner soiree for the National Council of Negro Women Spelman Section, which was very fun and a nice way to send off our seniors. I also participated in two fellowship programs this semester. The first one was the Black and Jewish Leaders of Tomorrow Fellowship, where I gained valuable leadership training through a three-day seminar while engaging in complex dialogue on the intricacies between two complex and marginalized minority groups. The second was the Women X | Demand X Campaign Fellowship, which was 12 weeks where I served as 1 of 40 students in the 4th Fellowship Cohort and explored the exploration of Title IX’s legacy while honing my activism and amplifying Title IX’s mission of empowerment on my college campus. As of this summer, I recently completed the CitiBank 2024 Freshman Discovery program, which was a 3-day program to enhance my technical and professional skills through extensive workshops, case studies, networking, and programming within the financial services industry. Coming up, I will be returning to Spelman in June to participate in a 4-week research opportunity through the Spelman Economic Department. Following this, I will be studying abroad in Mexico for 4 weeks as well, which I am most excited about. I promise this summer and this school year I will be better on documenting my success through pictures, as I do not have that many of myself.”
