2023 Project Height Scholarship Recipient: Nyla Johnson
We recently received a lovely thank you email from one of our Project Height scholarship awardees, Nyla Johnson, who is a junior at Xavier University of Louisiana. In her email, she highlights her student experience, goals and accomplishments as she continues her studies.
My name is Nyla Johnson and I’m a . My major is Accounting with a minor in Business Administration. Thank you again for letting me have the opportunity to become a recipient of the Dorothy Heights scholarship. I am very grateful for this because this really does help me to pay for my tuition. Once again, my goal for this semester was to volunteer whenever I had free time and to become an ambassador for an organization. I have accomplished both of these goals for this school year! For this school year, I was a Site Leader for the Office of Inclusion and Social Justice. Every other Saturday, I attend Service Saturday and I also volunteer with STEM NOLA to help children with their homework. I have also become an ambassador for the National Sales Network organization. I had the opportunity to go to Atlanta to participate in the Students’ Sales and Marketing Conference and Interview Fair. I had a great time networking with different companies that were participating in the conference as well as having the opportunity to get advice to help further my path to becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Along with this, I have some great news to share with you all, I have made the Dean’s List for this school year! I am very proud of myself because I have been working very hard this school year! When school is over, I will be interning at Ernst and Young. EY is one of the prestigious Big 4 accounting firms. I am absolutely ecstatic to be interning at Ernst and Young because I will be in the assurance department. I will be learning how to develop and maintain relationships with clients and provide definitive auditing services that the capital markets and the client can rely upon. Once again thank you again for awarding me this scholarship. I am truly grateful for this opportunity. Have a blessed day!
