Student Update: Devin Minor
Our scholarship recipient, Devin, recently sent us his reflections on his sophomore year at North Carolina A&T State University. We are so proud to hear how he overcame the challenges of adjusting to university life with the support of new friends and shared experiences. Please continue to read about his experience as he has shared them with us in his own words. Here’s what she had to say:
“Reflection on My Sophomore Year at North Carolina A&T
As my sophomore year at North Carolina A&T State University concludes, I find myself reflecting on a period of significant personal and academic growth. The initial weeks of this year presented a noticeable adjustment period. Transitioning further into university life, with its increased academic demands and the expansive environment of a larger institution, felt somewhat challenging at first. There was a brief sense of being overwhelmed as I navigated new courses and a broader campus community.
However, this initial period of adaptation soon gave way to a deeply positive experience. I was fortunate to discover a wonderful group of peers who genuinely took me in. This community provided not just camaraderie but also essential support, whether through collaborative study sessions, shared meals, or simply being a reassuring presence. Their acceptance transformed what could have been a difficult phase into one filled with belonging and renewed enthusiasm.
Academically, this year has been truly brilliant. The faculty at A&T are not only exceptional in their respective fields but also profoundly dedicated to student success. I’ve been intellectually stimulated and challenged to think critically, gaining invaluable insights and practical knowledge that I am confident will serve as a strong foundation for my future endeavors. The quality of education here is undeniably strong, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such committed educators.
Beyond the classroom, the culture at North Carolina A&T is, simply put, remarkable. Being immersed in a community of so many intelligent, dynamic, and highly motivated Black individualsis an exceptionally inspiring experience. There is a palpable sense of shared understanding, historical pride, and collective ambition that cultivates an incredibly supportive and uplifting environment. It truly feels like more than just a university; it is a vibrant, empowering family.
And, of course, any reflection on the A&T experience would be incomplete without mentioning GHOE – our iconic Homecoming celebration. It was every bit as vibrant and unifying as I had heard, if not more so. The atmosphere was electric, the sense of unity profound, and the overwhelming display of Aggie pride was truly unforgettable. It was an experience that further solidified my deep affection for this university and its cherished traditions.
In summary, this sophomore year has been a pivotal journey marked by significant personal development, meaningful connections, and extensive learning. I am concluding this year feeling more confident, deeply connected, and genuinely excited for what lies ahead at North Carolina A&T. Aggie Pride, always.”
