Student Update: Maria Sharman

We recently received this wonderful update from our 4 year DIHEF scholarship recipient, Maria Sharman. We are so proud of her accomplishments and personal growth during her college career. Learn more about Maria by reading her update below.

“Hi, my name is Maria Sharmin, and I’m proud to share that I was a recipient of the Dorothy I. Height Foundation Scholarship for four years. I am beyond grateful for the support I’ve received which allowed me to attend Temple University, major in Human Resources Management, and most importantly, graduate debt-free. The Foundation’s generosity played a huge role in making that possible, and I will always be thankful. 

Graduating college was such a bittersweet moment, but I walked across that stage Magna Cum Laude. Today, I’m working full-time at EMILY’s List as a Human Resources & Recruitment Coordinator. For those who may not know, EMILY’s List is the nation’s largest resource dedicated to electing Democratic pro-choice women to office, and I feel so lucky to contribute to this mission. In my role, I’ve had the opportunity to shape employee experiences, lead our competitive internship program, and help young people kick-start their careers in politics. 

On top of that, I recently launched my own business: Guru for Success. Guru for Success combines 1:1 coaching, personal growth techniques, and practical strategies to land internships, scholarships, and get into their dream schools. It’s about turning potential into reality. I’m not your typical high school counselor or career coach, I focus on showing students their possibility before they even believe in it themselves.
