Student Update: Tiaya Hubbard
We love hearing how DIHEF scholarship recipients have thrived during their college career. And, as in this case, after they have graduated. We received an update from Tiaya Hubbard, who shared her success story—highlighting both her academic achievements and the personal growth she experienced after receiving the scholarship. We are so proud of her! Learn more about Tiaya by reading her update below.
“After graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, I’m excited to continue my journey by pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at South College. My time at Alabama shaped me in so many ways, academically, personally, and professionally. I was involved in research with the MATCH Lab, focusing on racial inequities in sports medicine and doing community outreach with adolescent athletes. I also had the chance to mentor high school football players on brain health, nutrition, and mindfulness, which only strengthened my passion for working with athletes.
Beyond research and mentorship, I was an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., which taught me leadership, service, and the importance of sisterhood.
I’m incredibly grateful for this scholarship, as it has supported me and reminded me that others believe in my journey. I’m looking forward to starting the DPT program at South College and continuing to combine my love for sports, advocacy, and health equity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of the people I serve.”
