Student Update: Tori Simmons
We love hearing from our scholarship recipients and are happy to share this update with you. We last posted an update from Tori in 2022, so it’s exciting to hear about how much she’s experienced now that she’s in her fourth year at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Here’s what she had to say:
“As a Bioengineering major, I took an interest in my classes and participated in research in the Computational Optics and Translational Imaging lab last semester, where I learned a lot about 3D printing techniques. I also kept busy as Vice President and then Co-president of Sisters in Solidarity, an organization for black femmes on campus, Marketing Chair for the Biomedical Engineering Student Society, and active member of No Limits Dance Crew.
Since the beginning of the year, I have been completing my second co-op at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics at the University of Lisbon. My primary role has been assisting with preprocessing motion sensor accelerometer data using MATLAB. This global experience has been incredibly valuable, as I have gotten the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, meet new friends, and gain more experience with research and technology. For 6 months, I have gotten to know this beautiful city.
Although I will miss it, I am also looking forward to returning to Boston at the beginning of July to start summer classes and see my friends again. As I reflect on my past semesters at Northeastern, I am so grateful for the diverse experiences and opportunities that have shaped my academic and personal growth.”
